A tropical paradise called Cozumel

Cozumel is the largest Caribbean island in Mexico, about 11 miles from Playa del Carmen. It’s the entrance to the most extensive reefs in America, so there is a wide variety of marine species that you will indeed find if you go diving. In addition, this island has paradisiacal beaches, and its town, San Miguel, offers various restaurants and bars for your parties.

Do not miss all the details I will share below so that you have a perfect trip to this beautiful island!

How to get to Cozumel?

You have two different ways to get to Cozumel: ferry or plane. The most common way is to arrive from Playa del Carmen by ferry.

In Playa del Carmen, there are two ferry companies: Ultramar and Winjet. I traveled through both companies, and both experiences were good. These ferries leave every hour, and the journey is approximately 40 minutes. You can buy tickets online or at the port before boarding the ferry. The cost of each trip is about 70 Mexican pesos.

If you prefer something faster and have the budget, you can find a flight that arrives directly to Cozumel from PDC or Cancun. The local airline Maya Air has flights that take only 15 minutes.

Where to stay in Cozumel?

The hotel offer in Cozumel is vast. There are different prices and various places on the island. We stayed at Hotel B Unique, a wonderful place where architecture, service, food, and easy access to the sea make it magical! This hotel has a family area where you can enjoy it with kids and another area for adults. Every day there is a happy hour from 5 to 7 pm. The sunsets you will see there are incredible, with an endless pool followed by the colorful Caribbean Sea.

What to do in Cozumel?

You have several options to explore the island: you can rent a Jeep, a regular car, or a motorcycle, or if you are more athletic, you can also rent a bicycle. Also, there are guided tours that take approximately 8 hours, where you drive your Jeep while you follow the guide who takes you to the most important places and the most beautiful beaches of the island.

El Cielo is the largest reef on the island. There you can swim, snorkel and dive to see the diversity of marine fauna, such as colorful fish, starfish, turtles, and manta rays.

There are many other things to do in Cozumel, such as visiting the Mayan ruins of Chankanaab, going to the last corner of Mexico in Punta Sur, taking a transparent boat tour, and visiting tEL Pueblo del Maiz.

Cozumel is a paradise that is worth visiting. I hope this article helps planning your visit, and if you have any questions or comments, you can leave them below.
